Dr. Calzada was born in Mexico City and was raised in the Rio Grande Valley. He received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio, and completed his residency in family medicine at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio. He completed his post-graduate training with honors for his outstanding academic achievement.
Dr. Calzada is a member of several professional societies such as American Academy of Family Physicians, Texas Academy of Family Physicians and American Medical Association. Currently Dr. Calzada's special range of interest includes cardiovascular disease prevention, chronic disease management strategies, and sports medicine. He has served as sideline physician for multiple area high schools and ringside Physician at national martial arts competition. He is recognized by his peers as one of the top physicians in San Antonio.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and three sons.
